February has always been an exciting month.

For the past four Februarys, we’ve hosted a Balancing Our Minds event for youth across BC to come together to learn about mental health, engage in thoughtful dialogue, and discover how they can make mental health and wellness a priority in their school communities. This year, Balancing Our Minds is taking its show on the road, with five communities across the province hosting their own BOM Youth Summits. So, in true February fashion, we have some exciting news to announce!

The 2017 Balancing Our Minds Community Youth Summits will be hosted by:

  • Surrey School District
  • Capital Region District
  • Northern BOM (hosted in Prince George)
  • Okanagan
  • Oceanside (hosted in Qualicum Beach)

We are beyond excited to work collaboratively with each planning team to bring Balancing Our Minds to their community. This is an exciting new chapter for Balancing Our Minds, and it wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated planning teams in each community putting these events together. As an integral part of the planning process, every event will be informed by the youth in that community, creating five unique and inspiring days of youth stories, mental health education, and empowering students to promote mental health and wellness in their communities.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all the passionate groups and individuals who took the time to put together an application to host a BOM summit this year. We were blown away by the response we received when the application process was announced, and that’s not only a testament to the hard work each community put into their application, but also to the past attendees who have helped build Balancing Our Minds into what it is today.

So stay tuned to the Balancing Our Minds webpage for updates on each summit location and other exciting news and resources! If you curious to learn more about Balancing Our Minds, and perhaps are interested in planning your own mental health event or activity, take a look through the webpage to find the tools and information necessary to get you started.
